Letter to parents of children in years 2, 3, 4 and 5 - 10th June 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

In line with DfE guidelines, our school is currently open to children from Reception, Y1 and Y6, as well as children of critical workers and vulnerable pupils. These children are being taught in small groups, known as bubbles, by staff. Adherence to these guidelines means that all 14 of our classrooms are currently occupied. We have no additional classroom or staff capacity to admit further children at this time, and with the Government stating that rotations/rotas are not advised this option is also unavailable to us.

Following the Government’s announcement yesterday, we can confirm that Northlands Wood Primary Academy will remain closed to children in Year 2, 3, 4 and 5 for the remainder of this school year with children returning in September at the earliest.

We understand that this is likely to be disappointing news for lots of families. Many children have been unable to attend school for more than 10 weeks and we do not underestimate the challenges this will be presenting. We also acknowledge that maintaining enthusiasm for learning at home may be hard for some children and teachers will continue to do everything they can to provide exciting learning opportunities and feedback to all.

As we approach the end of the Summer term, thoughts will turn to a new academic year, classes and teacher/teaching assistant deployment. Please be reassured that we are currently in the process of planning how, despite these strange times we find ourselves in, we can ensure a smooth transition for all children. This process will look different to previous years. However, we are confident that it will be an effective one which will include some of the activities that the children are used to experiencing in preparing for the move to a new class, albeit this may be virtual or in a different format. We are also considering whether it will be possible for all pupils to experience some time with their current teacher before moving on to their next teacher. We know the value of this and the positive impact it will have on their future education.

If you need to contact us for any reason, please email the School Office:

Despite not all being in school, all families are very much in our hearts and minds and we send you our very best wishes.
